"Media memos"
3/21/08: A couple more tips from the "Got a tip?" form.
(Updated 8:30 PM)
- One tip informed me that Dave Rose is filling
in over at KKTV 11 News for an assignment editor who is out on maternity leave.
I wonder if Dave will be moving into another position at the station after that?
- Another tip informed me that McKenzie Martin
will soon be joining David Nancarrow as the new KKTV weekend anchor team.
McKenzie Martin is currently a reporter for 11 News.
- Another tip informed me that Salem
Communications Corporation , the owners of KZNT News Talk 1460, the ones who
earlier in the week terminated News Director Joe Myers and reporter Molly
Schmitt... may now have asked General Manager Henry Tippie to take a hike.
It was only a year ago this month that VP Rob
Adair, remarked in a Business Wire article, "Henry Tippie has been
successfully managing in Colorado Springs for 17 years and has 25 years in
broadcast management and ownership. He's a true business and community leader.
His proven multi-media expertise qualifies him to take our cluster to new
heights. I am thrilled to have Henry at the helm of our radio stations."
Wow... three purported terminations in a week!
Since Salem is a radio broadcaster focused on Christian programming... you just
have to ask... WWJD? ;-)
"2003 Cold Case - Missing Humpty Dumpty"
3/21/08: Some of you may remember the case of the missing egg who goes by the
name, Humpty Dumpty. Dumpty turned up missing from a downtown Colorado Springs
street corner in July of 2003, and as far as I know... the case was never
solved. Anyone got additional 411?
Here are a couple of articles about the theft and the replacement Dumpty.
From KKTV:
Humpty Dumpty Statue Stolen
Posted: 8:07 PM Jul 19, 2003
200 pound sculpture of Humpty Dumpty has disappeared from downtown Colorado
Springs.
Workers say Humpty Dumpty was sitting on his wall at Bijou and Tejon last night,
but was gone this morning.
The sculpture is part of the Art on the Street Program that's sponsored in the
downtown area. Humpty Dumpty had only been at his new home for one week.
From the CS Indy:

Putting Humpty Dumpty together again
By GINA SCHAARSCHMIDT
Remember when some egghead stole Humpty Dumpty from his perch on a planter at
Tejon and Bijou streets downtown last July? The case of the missing egg has been
a tough one to crack, and Denise Schall, program coordinator for the Downtown
Partnership -- which represents downtown businesses -- says the investigation is
ongoing although no new information has surfaced.
In the meantime, after H.D.'s mysterious disappearance, his Minneapolis,
Minn.-based artist, Kimber Fiebiger, was commissioned to cast another egg. Cast
in a foundry in Loveland, the new "HD", valued at $12,000, has a slightly
different color to his bronze painted patina than the original and has been
bolted securely to a boulder to thwart any more thievery.

This was the original Humpty Dumpty, stolen from the corner of Tejon and Bijou,
either on July 18th or 19th 2003.

This is the replacement Humpty Dumpty sitting at the same corner, just a bit
north of the original location.

The replacement Dumpty, at the location it sits today.
