"News Blab Crash Cam"
3/6/08: Oops...can't blame this one on
snowy conditions or icy roads.

"1893 murder confession story... cool"
3/6/08: Hey KKTV.... nice job on that 1893
murder confession story. I read the release about it, but didn't know you
had done a story until after I got done reading the entire package they posted.
I was going to do a write-up about it and decided to search the web for a bit
more information. Your story popped up, so I watched the video.
It's a very interesting story, and I'm glad the
Fountain museum is going to be able to display that piece of their history.
In case anyone hasn't heard about this, you
might want to check it out. A piece of wooden molding had a hand written
confession printed on the back. The guy who wrote it lived in Fountain where he
says he killed a man. The confession was left by him as a part of the
house he built way back in the 1800's. It was only discovered in 1986,
during a remodeling of the house. A Gazette Telegraph reporter turned it
over to the police back then, and an investigation began.

with about 10 pages of the cases history can be found:

"Did you ever wonder...???"
3/6/08: Read the caption under each of the
following pictures, and see if you know the answer...
Photos by News Blab

Did this guy ever taste the water from this spring...???

Did this car ever want to be a police car when it grew up...???

Did the drivers of these construction vehicles park them here so they could
souvenir shop...???

Do any of these traffic barrels ever wish they could get an ice cream from
Patsy's...???

Is balanced rock ever afraid it's going to fall over...???

Did any of the Indians who used this trail think they made a wrong turn
somewhere along the route...???
"Inside Stratton Pointe"
3/5/08: Colorado Springs, CO - It's going to be
called Stratton Pointe, they say. They also say, it's a place that is
trying to become the new home of the US Olympic Committee. That is....
once it's finished, which doesn't look like it will be anytime very soon.
The intersection at Tejon and Colorado has
pretty much looked the same for a good long while now. The blue building
on the corner with the broken chain link fence in front has been a downtown
eyesore, in the state it's been in, for over a year.
Windows covered with political posters or
entertainment banners, the fence's sharp edges reaching out to cut anyone who
gets too close. Ahh yes... beautiful downtown.
The other day I stepped a bit closer to get a
look inside. Is anything happening to the interior of this promised oasis
of hope? Yes... there is change going on in there. It looks like
there is some construction going on. Check it out...

"Cyber lynching Motari, and his family"
3/4/08: David Motari, the marine that so many
have already assumed or determined is the individual shown in the video,
throwing the puppy over the cliff, has already become the recipient of a massive
amount of cyber-lynching... but it doesn't stop with him.
A huge on-line lynch mob has already researched and published personal
information about David Motari, his sister, his family, and his
friends, according to various reports.
Things that have been listed on many websites include... telephone numbers, an
address of a Ranaye and Steve Motari in Monroe, Washington, (maybe his
parents), his mothers work address and phone, pictures of David Motari's Honda Civic and its Hawaii registration
number and other personal information about his family and others he knows.
Motari's family, living in Monroe, WA now has
police cars circling their house because of threats made against them.

"Name of marine puppy killer tracked down?"
3/4/08: You know bloggers.... they are good at
getting the goods on people who need those goods, gotten. Well, in this
case are they right???
Many a website site is now reporting that the
marine who is seen on a video, throwing the puppy over the cliff in Iraq is the
guy pictured below, David Motari.

Here are some links to those blogs...

"This guy didn't mind a bit of dirt... even
before"
3/4/08: Colorado Springs, CO - I wondered who
this was, especially since I couldn't find any last name. It wasn't hard
to find out what that was though, and while searching for it... I found out a
few other interesting things; things which the stones inscriptions hinted at.

His name was George W. Snider. According
to some of the stuff I read, Snider heard about some Manitou Springs cave
entrances discovered by a couple of brothers, John and George Pickett. The
Pickett cave I guess is now what is considered the lower portion of Cave of the
Winds.
But George Snider did some additional poking
around with a shovel, digging for a bit before being able to crawl into what are
now the upper levels of Cave of the Winds, and the many rooms that people
explore today. According to one report I read, upon making his discovery, George
Snider is quoted as saying, "Holding my candle high... the
sight was so deeply embedded in my memory it can never be effaced. It was as
though Aladdin with his wonderful lamp had affected the magic result."
Here is a timeline I found:
26-JUN-1880 Reverend Roselle T. Cross with several boys from a
Boys Exploring Association visits the canyon. Two boys, George and John Pickett
discover several chambers in the Cave of the Winds archway.
JUL-1880 Cave of the Winds first opened to the public by Charles Cross and the
Boynton brothers.
DEC-1880 George W. Snider discovers a small blowhole with a plume of steam seven
metres high during a hunt.
JAN-1881 George Snider and Charles Rinehart discover an upper level in the Cave
of the Winds, form a partnership to purchase the cave.
26-FEB-1881 the Cave of the Winds is re-opened on a limited basis to the public.
09-JUN-1881 George Snider returns and excavates the blowhole, finding the
Manitou Grand Caverns.
JAN-1885 George Snider begins commercialization efforts at the Manitou Grand
Cavern.
UPDATE: After
reading a bit more about George Snider (and his brothers) I found out some other
things worth noting.
- George and his bros had the 'Snider Stone and
Lime Company' which had quarry operations in what is now the Red Rocks Open
Space. Many of those rock cuts you see may have been done by them.
- While digging on their stone company property,
they uncovered at a depth of about 4 feet, the remains of what they figured was
an Indian that had been buried there. According to newspaper reports, (The
Journal), George Snider brought the remains down to the Journal offices, and put
them on display.
- According to newspaper accounts, George Snider
saw a bear wandering just below his 'Manitou Grand Caverns', put two slugs into
it, but didn't bring it down.
- Nellie Snider, George's wife died from
injuries sustained after she fell through a screen door, according to newspaper
reports. This was after the Snider's moved away from Manitou Springs, to
Los Angeles, CA.
- George Snider was the plaintiff in a major law
suit for many years over the actual ownership of 'Manitou Grand Caverns'.
So... now knowing some of this additional
information, maybe there is even more 'dirt' than just the dirt he dug with that
shovel of his...???.

George W. Snider and his wife Nellie are buried in Evergreen Cemetery
"Media feedback"
3/3/08: Colorado Springs, CO - I received
feedback from the KOAA reporter whose story I had some concern about when that
story led to, what I thought was a disregard to a request contained in a CSPD
news release asking the media, "... not to publicly announce the meeting
until after its completion."
If you didn't read that story,
"IMHO, KOAA Ch 5/30 violated a trust",
you can see it on the 27 Feb story page.
Anyway... below is the feedback I received from
Mr. Jarman about my write-up:
I did talk with the CSPD Sgt in charge of SVU
before the meeting and explained what we wanted to do. He did not express a
problem with our live shot plan, and helped us figure out a way to prop open the
door that our photographer walked through during our live shot.
"Beneath the girders"
3/3/08: Colorado Springs, CO - It appears that
many, if not all of those 85 foot long, 70,402 pound and 109 foot long, 86,587
pound girders have been put in place over at the "under construction" Cimarron
Bridge. On Sunday, I took a walk beneath the girders. Check it out...

"Sunday Evening News 'A' Block review"
3/2/08: Colorado Springs, CO - As will be a
continuing habit of mine, I like to randomly pick a local newscast, to see just
how much relevant & recent local news is actually being produced by the locals
for the locals in the "A" block. Tonight seemed to be a good choice since
the weather and weather related events are the big news of today.
Let's see how the evening news products fared...
shall we...??? Here is how this informed viewer rated them.
#1 - KRDO News Channel 13 (5 PM edition) 5 stars
***** (Good weather event coverage, very recent events. 3 LIVE reporters out and
about at various locations and one taped reporter report)
#2 - KKTV 11 News (5:30 PM edition) 3 stars ***
(Good weather event coverage, very recent events. 1 LIVE coverage reporter out
and about)
#3 - KOAA News First (5:30 PM edition) 1 star *
(Okay weather event coverage, but not as recent. Mostly covered early morning
events, when one reporter was video taping story. No LIVE coverage reporter.
Missed the boat on all the late afternoon occurrences.)
"Icy conditions, accidents abound"
3/2/08: Colorado Springs, CO - Predicted snow
and wintry conditions caused accidents galore during the mid afternoon hours on
Sunday, as roads became icy and drivers may not have used necessary cautions, as
appropriate. Emergency responders were kept busy as the afternoon wore on,
with many of the major thoroughfares the scene of multiple collisions.
The three vehicle accident pictured below
occurred at Platte and Foote. Multiple accident victims were taken to area
hospitals because of this one.

"Memory lane and the Moose tree"
3/1/08: Colorado Springs, CO - During a jaunt
through MVP the other day I came across a tree where the Springs' Moose spent
many a day chomping on the greenery during his visit to our City, and the park.
But it appears that tree where I captured more than a few pictures of him, has
seen some better days.
The top section has been broken off... I'm guessing by one
of the wind storms we had a while back.
Yep, I can still see him, in my mind's eye, just
standing there, chewing and watching all those people... watching him.

Here he is, eating that tree.
