Three protestors arrested at Springs recruiting office

As I've done in the past, I'll be bringing you the text from today's Gazette article accompanied with my photos.  I do this when there is a news story worth seeing, as well as reading about.  In this case the writer, Dennis Huspeni wrote a good article... as always, but there was no Gazette photographer present at the news event. I understand KKTV was there in the beginning, but left before the arrests.  KOAA was there during the arrests, KRDO was not there, and News Radio 740 KVOR was also absent from this "News" event...

From the Gazette:

3 war protesters accused of trespassing
By DENNIS HUSPENI - THE GAZETTE
Three war protesters were issued tickets Friday alleging they trespassed after a demonstration in front of a military recruiting office on North Academy Boulevard.
The demonstration started just after 10 a.m. Friday at the military recruiting office at 5721 N. Academy Blvd. Recruiters called police after some in the group allegedly crawled on the roof to hang a banner.

From the Gazette:

Colorado Springs police Sgt. Larry Herbert said 15 to 20 protesters carried signs and made chalk outlines of bodies on the sidewalk.  “Some were in the street and blocking traffic,” Herbert said.
The protesters were “confrontational and argumentative,” but there was no violence, he said.

From the Gazette:

Issued trespassing citations were: Joseph M. Hatcher, 25; Molly J. Eno, 21, and Ryan N. Walker, 20.

From the Gazette:

One protester, Dave Therault, said the recruiters appeared to be upset.

“I don’t think the recruiter fellas liked to see us there,” Therault said. “I think that action we did today . . . hurts their numbers, as does the war itself.”
A Marine recruiter at the office took a reporter’s name and number, but no officials called for comment Friday.
Hatcher said he is an Army veteran who served in Iraq. He disputed the trespassing claim and said he never got on the roof.

From the Gazette:

“I’ve been in opposition to the war since before it began,” said Hatcher, who said he served with the 1st Infantry Division near Ad Dawr, Iraq, from February 2004 to March 2005. He got out of the Army in May.

“We were arrested based on the profiling of one Marine recruiter,” he said. “We were never on the roof because we never left the protest. I’ve got pictures and video to prove it, so I’m not that worried about the trespassing charge.”
