Hey, there's an LA news van... with it's boom up!

While approaching one of Long Beach's tourist traps, the Queen Mary, I noticed a familiar sight.  There in the distance was a very colorfully painted van, with a boom.  And on top of that boom... and microwave antenna.  I knew what that meant.  Either a "live shot", or someone was feeding video to their station.

The second scenario proved to be true, as I discovered when I barged my way into their space, card in hand, and announced who and what I was.  I'm sure the thoughts that raced through their minds were, "Oh no... another one..."

But, they were accommodating and allowed me to take a few shots for News Blab. These LA news people have no idea how lucky they are that I don't live here.  This "News Mecca" would be one heck of a News Blab playground...

Anyway... on with a few pics of my visit to the Queen Mary, and chance encounter with the LA news team.

As I approached from the parking lot, I hadn't yet seen the news van.  The boom is visible on the left side of the photo, though.

Arrrrr mate, there she blows...

... and there was movement inside.

I found out her name is Sandra Mitchell, a general assignment reporter for KCAL in LA.  She was here doing a story on the Marilyn Monroe exhibit that was just about to open, on the Queen Mary.  Below are a few screenshots from that story, as it aired that evening...
