Upset with Fox 21's handling of Mayor Bob's death
news

From the Fox 21 News website
5/5/08: I received the following "Got a tip?" form today:
message: "I can not believe a Springs news reporting
company like FOX21 would ignore the death of a former Colorado Springs Mayor who
served our community for so many years. I noticed that FOX21 did not announce
the Mayor Isaac death on their Friday night news program. They did manage to put
an AP story on their web page Sunday night. Why did it take them two days to
acknowledge this mans death and why use an AP story when they all live here?"
I don't know if Fox 21 ran a story about Isaac's during
their Friday edition after the forth story. That's as far as I watched it,
but none of those were about Mayor Isaac. I do know the other stations had
the information about his death on their websites prior to Friday at 9 p.m., and
they all did mention it as one of their top stories that night. KOAA was
the first to report it on their newscast at 6:03 p.m. on Friday.

25 percent of Gazette newsroom staff gone in past
year
5/4/08: Twenty five percent, I didn't know it was that
high, until I just read an on-line piece at the Digital Journalist. The article was
written by David Bitton, one of the latest to be let go by the Gazette...
something else I didn't know.
David wrote about his being let go at the Gaz; something he didn't think would
happen. He also shares some of the things he's done over the years, and
more recently at the Gazette.
David and I had some nice conversations each time we saw each other at a local
news event. He is a very good photog and photo journalist. And he was recently
really getting into the video aspect for the paper. I hope they are able to
bring him back, if things pick up.

Back-to-back high angle rescues
5/4/08: The CSFD experienced a higher than normal volume
of high-angle rescues this weekend. Two of these type rescue calls went
out Sunday afternoon, one right after the other.
The first location was behind some houses near a steep
cliff area, where a 10 or 11 year-old boy fell while climbing some rocks. The
other was in Garden of the Gods involving a 17-year-old male who was climbing
without the proper gear, according to reports. Both individuals were
injured from their falls, and both times the same first responder teams were
dispatched to perform those rescues.
