"Major accident requires extrication of victims"

4/25/08: News Blab was one of the first on-scene
at a major 2-car accident at the intersection of Wooten and Platte, this
afternoon. Upon my arrival, one AMR rig was the only emergency vehicle
on-scene... but two additional ambulances soon arrived as well as CSFD, Heavy
Rescue and CSPD. Three of the four accident victims were removed from the
vehicles; two had to be extricated
from one vehicle, using the jaws-of-life and metal cutting saws. At least
three, possibly four were taken to the hospital, two in serious
condition according to reports. One of the injured was walking around holding
his neck while the others were being worked on.

"Colorado Springs woman responsible for phone
call about WMDs, that started Iraq war?"

4/25/08: With all the 'sweeps-stunt-stories'
that have been filling my TV screen the past couple of nights, I'm surprised one
of the local TV news organizations hasn't provided a story with the angle,
Rozita Swinton, a
Colorado Springs woman is responsible for the
phone call that started the Iraq war, telling government officials about hidden
weapons of mass destruction she saw, as she was having sex with her middle aged
polygamist husband, while posing as a 16-year-old girl.
But on a serious note... someone thinks KRDO
News Channel 13 is getting their story ideas from KOAA News First. I
received the following "Got a tip?" form yesterday...
message: "This just in...... News Channel 13
likes News First 5/30's stories so much THEY'VE DECIDED TO COPY 5/30!!
First the massage parlor law in the
legislature, then the city travel expenses, and now the search for sex
offenders.
Shouldn't 13 at least give 5/30 credit if
they're going to use 5/30's story ideas?"
UPDATE 4/25/2008 - 6:15
p.m. Readers respond to the above
"Got a tip?" form comment -
message: "Hey, I think
13 ran the city expenses story before 5/30. 13's ran at 6pm, 5/30's at 10pm.
Umm, sorry if they feel they got beat to the story. Try again next time 5/30.
And, the sex offenders was not a KOAA idea, it's been done all across the
country. But KRDO's approach will be different than KOAA's which was a lazy way
to do it."
message: "Ha ha! Like 5/30 was the first station in the
country to come up with a sex offender sweeps extravaganza!?! BREAKING NEWS:
EVERYTHING WE ALL DO IS COPYING SOMEONE ELSE. Across town or across country its
been done before. The 5/30 folks should get off their high horse because
everything we've been doing and 13 has been doing lately is better than what our
local Tiffany station has been putting on television."
message: "Following your post of the "Newschannel 13
copies 5/30" got a tip...
Why is it that people get so upitty about news stations doing similar stories?
Doesn't everyone copy each other in order to be sure they don't miss reports?
There's a lot of times that if they don't follow other stations leads, they miss
stuff completely and run the risk of being completely scooped, left holding the
empty bag. Isn't that kind of what happened to Mr. 'give them the credit' 5/30
with the missing girl case? It seems sometimes one station sees something on
another and takes the idea and runs with it. It really comes down to the report
itself. The investigation, the facts uncovered and the professionalism. That's
why they're called 'competitors.' It's all the same event, the difference is the
performance."
message: "New ND at 13 and they seem to be playing
dirty. Will it get them anywhere?"
UPDATE 4/26/2008 - 7:45
p.m. And even more readers respond
-
message:
"New ND at KRDO is an idiot. It's all about
pointing out the surface filth, and not really getting to the core of a subject.
Who cares if it's not correct? Surface is what they are selling."
message: "Reading the responses from KRDO
about copying 5/30. Obviously, in an attempt to please the new news director,
the reporters there have lost their ethics. It's sad. Good competition is one
thing, 2nd rate reporters trying to steal sweeps stories to get ahead just makes
them look bad in the market. We all cover a lot of the same stories. KRDO,
however, is taking stories from 5/30 and KKTV, and trying to make it as if it
was their idea. For those reporters...good luck in your careers. This is a small
business."
