"What's a weekend... without media rumors?"

3/29/08: Here's a few from the "Got a tip?" form.

- "a manager at fox21 was detained by police in front of several employees thursday night"

UPDATE 8:05 p.m. I received two additional e-mails from someone within Fox 21 saying the Chief Engineer was the one ticketed for something that happened while driving to the station after being told about smoke in the KXRM facility, and that this person was allowed to make the building safe and prepare things to ensure the broadcast could go on-air, before the police issued that ticket.

The ticket was for a driving infraction but not for cutting off any emergency vehicle as first reported by a second tip.  And there was no fire, just a bunch of smoke from an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) within the station.

Sorry for any confusion that was printed prior to this update.

- "Some of the TV stations in the springs are trying to get together and may try to go to be union shops. There was already 1 meeting, and that went very well."

- "On Sunday at the Broadmoor, around noon there is a Media Cookoff. Fox21, Meghan and Tim from the morning show and Rachel and Mark from 5/30."

As always, if you've got any additional info for any of these... feel free to share it anonymously!

"Spring Break + Shopping Mall + Gathering Students = Trouble"

3/29/08: Yesterday was a typical Friday at a local shopping mall, except for the fight involving 12 people.  Or is that typical too?

Anyway, emergency crews responded to the reported fight at around 3:15 p.m. Security guards had their hands full keeping the area cleared as CSPD investigated and CSFD along with AMR EMTs cared for anyone injured.  Check it out...

"Jumping the gun or preparing for what they already know?"

A News Blab Exclusive

3/28/08: The deal is not even a done deal... or is it?  The special City Council meeting to vote on going forward with the proposal to offer the USOC a $53 million dollar "incentive" (some spell it b-r-i-b-e) to stay in Colorado Springs is scheduled for this coming Monday at 12:45 p.m., more than 2 days from now... but the guys over at LandCo Equity Partners have already prepared a graphic showing what their Stratton Pointe might look like if (when?) the USOC agrees to accept the proposal and this building becomes their new office space.  The look of the Olympics is key to the facade.

Even their planned website page, which is not active yet but can be seen below, has the claim to fame text, "Home of the United States Olympic Committee" adoring it, ready to go after Monday's press conference scheduled by the USOC.  A conference which follows the Council meeting.  So, you tell me... with all this circumstantial evidence,  do you think this is already a done deal?

(News Blab acquired the following actual LandCo graphics, which I'm guessing are being seen here by the public for the first time)

"$53 million 'bribe' to keep USOC here, is it worth it?"

3/28/08: Read the details, here: http://www.newsblab.com/usoc_sweet_deal.pdf

It also appears, if I read the plan correctly, that another sweet deal is in the works under this plan for developer Ray Marshall and his LandCo construction company.  You may remember (it's in the public record) that it was Ray Marshall, LandCo, and some of its associates that contributed thousands of dollars ($$$) to Mayor Rivera's re-election campaign.  Imagine that...

UPDATE: By-the-way... when I ran for Mayor last year it was no secret that I was not a favorite of the developers during my campaign.  When interviewed by any organization having to do with developers, building associations, etc. I was pretty much left with the reality that they were after a person who would "be there for them", and I was not that person.  So, what did the people of Colorado Springs do...???, they voted in those who were openly supported by developer's dollars.

You made your choices voters of Colorado Springs.  Enjoy the fruits of your selections...
